why?Which type of breathing is controlled and which one is automatic?
Automatic breathing is controlled by centers in the lower brain stem. This is the type of breathing that our bodies do without us even thinking about it. Volitional breathing is controlled by the cerebral cortical centers. This is the type of breathing that is practiced by many athletes to enhance performance. Examples would be deep breathing and paced breathingWhich type of breathing is controlled and which one is automatic?
Breathing is automatic and controlled, you can't avoid to breathe = it is automatic that the body will intake and exhale air (CO2) to its lungs and you can control it because it either you inhale so deeply or hold your breath for some time.

The first we will call preparatory breathing 鈥?or how we can use our breathing before carrying out an action; the second we will refer to as synchronized breathing 鈥?or how we can get the most assistance from our breathing during an action.

Inhaling through the nose cleans the air entering the lungs and insures the proper temperature and humidity for optimal oxygen transfer within the lungs.
